How we got here

Ai Guaranteed Edge started in 2019 as a side project between two machine-learning engineers who kept being asked the same question by friends running small businesses: "Can AI actually do anything useful for us, or is it all hype?" The honest answer was "both", and that honesty became the foundation of the company.

We registered formally in early 2020 and took on our first paying client, a Belfast-based logistics firm that needed better route optimisation. The model we built saved them roughly £4,200 a month in fuel costs. Word spread. By the end of that year we had five active projects and our first full-time hire.

Today the team numbers nine people, all based in Northern Ireland. We have delivered 73 projects across retail, professional services, healthcare administration and manufacturing. Some were large (six-month engagements with dedicated infrastructure) and some were small (a two-week proof of concept that answered a yes-or-no question). Both kinds matter to us.

What we believe

We wrote these down in 2020 and have not changed them since. They are not aspirational slogans; they are rules we use to make decisions when a project gets complicated.

Say no when the data is not there

A model trained on bad data will produce confident, wrong answers. If a client's dataset is too small, too noisy or too biased to support the outcome they want, we tell them before any money changes hands. About one in five discovery phases ends with a recommendation not to proceed. That ratio is something we are proud of, because the alternative is charging for work that will disappoint.

Explain the model, not just the output

A prediction is only useful if the people acting on it understand why the model made that call. We produce plain-language documentation for every model we deploy. Our dashboards show feature importance, confidence intervals and known blind spots. The goal is for your team to trust the system because they understand it, not because we told them to.

Own the maintenance question early

Models decay. Customer behaviour shifts, product catalogues change, seasonal patterns evolve. We build retraining pipelines into every deployment and set up alerts that fire when accuracy drops below an agreed threshold. The conversation about who will maintain the model after handover happens in week one, not week twelve.

Charge fairly

We quote fixed prices after discovery, not before. Hourly billing creates an incentive to be slow; fixed pricing creates an incentive to be efficient. If the scope changes mid-project we renegotiate openly. No surprise invoices.

The people behind the models

Nine people, no middle management. Everyone writes code, talks to clients and reviews each other's work.

Conor Maguire

Co-founder, ML engineering

Former data engineer at a Belfast fintech. Conor focuses on model architecture and deployment pipelines. He is particularly interested in time-series forecasting for supply-chain applications.

Siobhán Daly

Co-founder, NLP and product

Siobhán studied computational linguistics at Queen's University Belfast. She leads our conversational-AI projects and handles most client-facing communication during discovery phases.

Ravi Patel

Senior data scientist

Ravi joined from a London-based insurance analytics firm in 2022. He specialises in anomaly detection and fraud-prevention models, and mentors the two junior members of the team.

Aoife Brennan

Data engineer

Aoife builds the data pipelines that feed our models. She manages integrations with client systems including Xero, Salesforce and various bespoke ERP platforms. She has a background in backend web development.

The remaining five team members include two junior ML engineers, a DevOps specialist, a project coordinator and a part-time UX researcher. We introduce the full team during the discovery phase of every project.

Key milestones

2019 — First prototype

Built a route-optimisation proof of concept for a Belfast logistics company during evenings and weekends. The model reduced average delivery times by 11 %.

2020 — Company registration

Registered Ai Guaranteed Edge as a limited company in Northern Ireland. Signed our first three commercial contracts within six months.

2021 — Team of four

Hired Ravi and Aoife. Completed our tenth project, a demand-forecasting system for a mid-size UK retailer that cut overstock costs by 15 %.

2022 — Computer vision launch

Added computer-vision services after a manufacturing client asked us to automate visual quality checks on a packaging line. Defect detection accuracy reached 97.3 % within the first month of production use.

2023 — 50th project

Delivered our 50th project. Cumulative documented cost savings for clients passed £1.5 million. Expanded the team to nine.

2024 — Conversational AI focus

Launched a dedicated conversational-AI practice after large language models made custom chatbots practical for smaller businesses. Five chatbot deployments went live in the second half of the year.
